AV Geeks
Five amigos once thrown together in Hippieville...
Now, we're fighting evil in the desert, on the prairie and in the city.
Sure, we're the glorified AV geeks of local news... but we're much much cooler.

A week

I've had a week and a half without internet, boys.
Apparently I didn't miss much around here.

I visited the Pearly Gates in St. Peter
Gates

Rallied for the Twins
Rally caps (and buckets)

Waited at the NBA Draft
Waiting

And, this is the best one, saw the Wienie-Mobile!
Wienie-mobile!

Around 10:20 pm , it merged in front of me at Crosstown going south and exited west on 494. I imagine the mobile has rich relatives in Edina, and will spend the night mooching off of them and sleeping on their couch.

The BEACH

On my weekend I headed to San Diego....to hit the beach. It was sunny and warm. The water was great! I went swimming, and I boogie boarded. Next time I going to tryout some surfing.

I may have gotten alittle too much sun. Now I have a wicked sunburn. Needless to say I had a blast!

NEW COACH

THE SACTO KINGS INTRODUCED THE NEW COACH TODAY.
I SHOT THE PRESSER.

LET'S JUST SAY I WASN'T ON MY A-GAME.
I FUCKED UP THE AUDIO FOR THE FIRST 2'ish MINUTES.
LUCKILY THE PRESSER RAN ABOUT 1/2 HOUR.
PLENTY OF OTHER STUFF TO USE.

Triple A

Tonight I went a 51's game. It is not my first Triple A game, but it was the funnest. I went with a few friends. The 51's were playing the Sky Sox from Colorado.

I couldn't tell you who won the game, since I got really, really, really drunk. I'll check the box score tomorrow.

The whole objective of the night was to make a Beer-amind higher than the seats. This is saying alot since it wasn't $1 beer night

Mission Accomplished!!!

Check flickr for more pics!

Party of the Year!

This weekend Vegas Magazine had its 4th Anniversary Party. Everyone who is anyone was at this party. Vegas Celebrities, Hollywood Stars (Paris would have been there, you know if she wasn't doing hard time), L.V. elite, and oh yeah...I was also on the guest list.

My friends and I partied like rock stars all night, and the best part it all was FREE. Drinks, food, entertainment....all of it was top shelf and FREE!

Easily this can be marked down as the BEST PARTY EVER! Maybe you can come out next year and help me rock it out again.

The Heat is ON!!

Big story of the week....It's HOT!

We offfically hit over 100 degrees four days straight. The heat is coming. So now begins the weeks of triple digits, endless stories about homeless in heat....workers in heat....children in heat....drivers in heat...you in heat...I'm in heat....heat, heat, heat.

Yet they seem to over look the fact that all the photogs and reporters also have to be in the heat all day...day after day. Where's my story?

Hydrating as we speak.

His Name is BRUCE!!

Tonight I went to a special viewing of Bruce Campbell's new indie film, "My Name Is Bruce". It was showing at CineVegas.

I was planning on going all week, but earlier today we (and by we I mean my station) got word that Bruce himself was going to be at the screening to introduce it.

Fucking AWESOME!!!!!!!

Not only did I get to see his newest film before the mass public...it's done, just not completely finished with audio adjustments and such...but I was going to see the Man himself. I was going to see the Campbell.

I was a little worried at first. There was some small print on the ticket stating the ticket didn't guarantee seating. It was first come....first serve, and the people with all week passes got access first. Luckly for me I was made the cut. I had to sit up front, but shit I got to see Bruce up close.

The movie was pretty good. It wasn't an Oscar winning film, but it was very entertaining. And isn't that why you go to the movies in the first place. To be entertained.

The Best part was definitely the Q&A after the film. Bruce is fucking hilarious!!!

Check out Miles blog tomorrow night to read some highlights of the Q&A

ZITO PITO

WENT TO AN SF GIANTS GAME TODAY.
ZITO WAS ON THE MOUND.

HE HANDLED THESE BALLS WITH MUCH MORE CONTROL THAN THE ONES HE THREW OVER THE PLATE TODAY. HIS PITCHING HAS SUCKED ALL SEASON. IT SEEMS HE NEEDS TO LOOK INWARD...AND DIG FOR SOME ANSWERS...NO...REALLY DIG.

CineVegas

Working for a "Hard News" station you don't always get to cover any of the fun events. The usual fatals, murders, and drug busts are more than enough to fill a newscast. But every once in awhile we get a fun assignment throw at your feet. Take for example this Wednesday. I came into work was handed this....

Are you shitting me? I'm going to one of those red carpet premiere thingys that you always see on the E! channel. Indeed I was, the CineVegas film festival was kicking off this year with a premiere of a major Hollywood film.

I was going to get picture of stars like George Clooney, and Brad Pitt

And be able to interview such celebs like Matt Damon, and Andy Garcia
Well I was lucky I had my XDCAM, because as you can see, I only got photos of the video I shot. There were two reasons for this. One, I noticed that my digital camera battery was low on juice. So I decided to save my power for the cool stars and skip losers like Carrot Top and Wayne Newton. Two, it turned into a MADHOUSE as soon as the big stars arrived.

Each crew had it's very own place along the red carpet, marked by a sign on the ground. We were near the end of the carpet with all the other who-cares-about-the-locals, and all the major national crews were at the beginning where the stars arrived. Getting interviews with someone like Dennis Hopper(who wasn't in the movie, but just there to fill out the celebrity card) was easy, but....when the main stars showed up. Cue the choas!

As BIG stars made it down my way, so followed ALL the rest of the major TV crews who were positioned in the front of the line. Apparently they didn't get enough video when it was their turn, and they all wanted to push me out of my turn. Whenever a star stopped in front of me countless of microphones, and recording devices shot out from every direction. I was pushed and shoved by other cameramen trying to steal my shot, so I elbowed and pushed back. I stood my ground. It all happened so quickly I didn't have time to dig my digital camera out of my pocket. I was too worried about getting my shots for my story, which you can find on our website.

The Red Carpet was fun. It was cool seeing all the major television crews at work, but.......let's just say I won't be applying to "Extra" or "E!" anytime soon.

The DESK!!!

Being on the front lines of the TV news war, we endure a lot of crap 5 days a week. So, on a photog's days off it is always nice to do something fun. A walk in the park, hiking, getting piss ass drunk! All of those work. Here's a sampling of fun things to do in portland...

Motorcycle rides up the gorge

Getting stuck and almost rolling a very heavy truck, also in the gorge. (notice the cable winch holding the front of the truck to the hill)

An employee party at the Nike campus... oh wait that was on the clock. Seemed like fun even though I couldn't drink the FREE BEER!

Why do I recount all of this??? Because with the lack of assignment desk people, us photogs have been filling in (same union... we get the shaft). So at 3pm last sunday I saddled up to these babys:

What followed was a non stop barrage of your typical scanner traffic, times 10!!! Working with an AE who used to work at fox meant "attentive scanner listening". Didn't matter that we have 1 crew working and no real on call system. We HAD to know what bullshit crime was being comitted in the greater Portland metro area. Once I was left alone on the desk... i could settle back and log some quality TV time!

unfortunatley this was the best thing on.

I hope Andrew starts here soon!

Downpour

Here's a little present for Dusty.
He misses good weather.
We've got enough good weather up here to go around.

IMG_3640.JPG

This is just after a pretty decent downpour/thunderstorm.

Good stuff.

I'll get myself a rain cover for my camera and next time I'll go out in the rain. Maybe.

"Doesn't Looks A Thing Like Jesus"

One of the best things about Living in the L.V. is that alot of cool bands come here. Since I love music I always want to go to concerts.

The Killers are actually from Vegas, so I was hoping the show at the Hard Rock outdoor summer stage was going to be good. I was wrong. IT WAS FREAKIN' AMAZING!

I had great seats! I was closer than the picture shows. The concert was so cool that I didn't want it to end. Plus they were awesome to watch live. Way better than on iPod.

A great way to kick off summer concert season. I hoping to score John Mayer tickets for next week. Too many shows not enough.......cash!

REMbug

It's been a while since I've done any work on REMbug...so I did a some 2nd Unit stuff I've been putting off.

The reason I've been sitting on my REMbug ass is because I've become frustrated with my shitty ass Magix Movie Maker program. It fucking sucks for anything that involves more than a couple of quick edits and some shit ass music. So...tomorrow I'm running over to Duff's house to check out his Adobe program. If I like it better (which I'm sure I will) I'll be upgrading.

BTW, Borracho...you did give me a disc with some programs on it once, but they were only upgrades, and since I didn't have Adobe anything at the time, it wouldn't load them for me.
