Disaster

It snowed again today and I continue to enjoy weather stories even though I've basically done the same story over and over and over again.

But it was more than the snow that kept the day interesting. There was also the small fact that the switcher in our control room went down an hour before the newcast. We had no graphics, no live shots, and couldn't go to video. Besides that, we couldn't switch between cameras so the whole hour was shot off the shoulder by one guy.



It made for some interesting telelvision, I tell you.

Executive Gummi Producer

It seems like everyone is a little down these days. It must be the cold winter nights. No frowns here, because I'm working with the E.G.P. He never sends me on news that's not breaking. He let's me take my dinner break. He even says nice job from time to time. If only more producers where like the Gummi.

Cheer up Amigos! Spring is on it's way. I've seen it.

Long Sunday Nights

Long nights of eating take out in my rig. Eating half a pack of Orbiz winter mint. Listing to the burned Dave Chapelle CD that was left in my car. The road is getting blurry and long. If the desk calls me one more time maybe I'll drive this heap of shit to Mexico.

Stickers

When I having a bad day all I have to do is look up. In my news car, among a collection of vistors badges and a "wash your hands" sticker that just appeared one day, I have a reminder of where I came from.



As lovely Emily has pointed out, the old logo sits there, just above my eye line, waiting to be noticed. When I need a reality check I just look up and think...

"At least I don't have to deal with that shit anymore."

Snow Escape

Utah snow is amazing!!!

Light and soft. It's like flying on a cloud.

Just got back from my ski trip to Brianhead, Utah. I went up there with a few friends. No El Guapo, I'm not off weekends yet. Used some vacation days for the trip. I had a blast. Burned out every muscle I could on the slopes. Today I'm in pain, but it was totally worth it. Probably didn't help that I stayed up all night partying in Mesquite. I love clubbing in small towns. It's like be back home..

Towing Fears

Last night I was at my friend's house just hanging out. He lives in a gated community, and like everywhere is a red zone. I parked right in front of his house like always, usually nothing ever happens. No big deal. There's not even any traffic on the street. So around 11pm I was towed! I tried to chase down the tow truck to stop it, but they sped away. Saying I was pissed doesn't even describe it.

I had to go pick it up today from the tow company in the ghetto. I found out online the location and the fact that I had to pay in cash. So you can imagine the feeling of being in the shady part of town with $200 in my pocket. I was was the only person there at 8 am and it took 40 minutes for them to look at my ID, my registration, and for me to sign three forms. It's a good thing that I make "the Jed money" now.

Tomorrow I'm going snowboarding in Utah. I am positive it will be a much better day

HOME ALONE GETS OLD

Burro Roundup

Today we followed up on a on going story that has many people in the Clark County pissed off. BLM is rounding up wild horses and burros in the desert surrounding LV and relocating them to other parts of the desert. Very exciting stuff. I would have gotten pics of the burros being corraled by a James Bond replica helicopter and some pudding eating cowboys, but I needed my extender to even get good video. So instead here is a shot of the barbed wire fence that marked the invisible barrier that I could not pass.

I drive by this everyday when I go to work. I'm starting to notice a few things askew with the historic building. Can you pick it out? Also how come abandoned buildings attract so many homeless people? I haven't see such an increase in vagrants since summers in Hippieville.

SPARE TIME

I had to run a live truck down to one of the only two ENG factories in the nation early this morning to have its mast rebuilt. I failed to take my camera along. I could have taken many cool pictures during my tour of the live truck/sat truck warehouse. I left the house at 6:30am, and was a little out of it...which would explain why I forgot my camera. Anyway, I'm working a split today so I can be at the station tonight for live shots and crap. I was left with this fat batch of time in the middle of the day without any energy, motivation, etc. So I downloaded a bunch of DMX songs from iTunes. I also messed with the cat...It's always the best time killer.

Sleet

There's another layer of ice on the roads.
I hate Tulsa drivers.

CES

Today I went to CES (Consumer Electronic Showcase). It is in LV every year and it is huge. I saw alot of cool new products that any AVGeek would love to own. Canon unveiled its new line of prosumer HD Cams. The New XL H1 is freaking awesome I wish I had $9000 to buy it, plus they also have the new XH G1 and XH A1 which are just slightly less expensive. Start your saving.

Other than cameras and HD TVs, I really didn't see anything else, or maybe I just wasn't looking for anything else. I did see this awesome PT Crusier. It looked like the Batmobile minus the criminal catching gadgets, replaced with mega TVs and kickass sound system. You can play GTA on its roof.....



but look close. No steering wheel. How in the hell do you drive this thing?

What's up Doc?

On the darker side of the Fremont Street Experience, you can see all kinds of interesting people and happenings. Like pimps selling jewlery, homeless people charging for parking, and a man with a giant rabbit on a leash. Meet Garret and his rabbit friend Thor. He claims that F.S.E. keeps kicking him out of the area because of a "no pets" policy, but he doesn't care. He is just going to hide Thor in his coat and go right back into Fremont Street. He says that all the tourist like him and Thor, and that all the kids want to pet Thor.

I didn't want to touch it. Who knows what kind of bugs are crawling all over that fur. And the rabbit was also gross.

OUT WITH THE OLD

I picked up some Cali-style plates today. Now I won't get any more dirty looks on the freeway...Cause...ya' know...most people around here think Oregon is about as uncivilized as Oregonians think Montana is.

The Guardian Angels begin patrolling LV. The group best known for montioring the subways of New York City has come to cleanup Downtown LV starting with Fremont Street. Once thought as vigilantes, this new and improved confrontational group wants to build a better community for us all. Without being armed they are determined to prevent all crime with communication, conflict resolution, and psychology.



The militant attitude and strength in numbers gives these guys an edge over the criminal element.



Not to mention the awesome uniform.

Like Riding a Bike

Today I went snowboarding for the first time in three years. It was awesome!! At first, I was a little rusty, but soon I was shredding the snow like crazy. I can't wait to go again next week. I missed the powder. When I was at Sleezy, I didn't get the chance to hit the slopes, but now I'm making that Klassy money. I going on a mountain tour.
